A Message for Pres. Rodrigo Duterte

From Maranao Evacuee Cairoden Gambao
June 15, 2017, Marawi City

"My beloved President Rodrigo Duterte, if it’s possible, please stop the fighting, have pity on us, your countrymen who are Maranaos. Our homes and Marawi City have been destroyed.

My beloved President Rodrigo Duterte, stop the fighting here in Marawi and stop the bombings by the airplanes. You have seen in television that our houses in Marawi City, especially in the town, have been set on fire by the bombings. When the civilians return to these places, we will have nowhere to live, we will have no more resources, we will have no homes to return to. We have nothing to return to. We have no more houses, we have lost our businesses, our belongings. What will we do?

Put a stop to this martial law. We have already gone through this situation. This is enough.

It is heartbreaking. I was born during the martial law of President Marcos. As a small child I was already running from the sound of bombings. It is terrifying.

I was born during martial law, I was not able to go to go to school properly, and because of martial law I am fearful of both the military and the rebels. What will be the future of our people if we cannot go to school? If we cannot put up our business?

So I implore you President Duterte, to put an end to this. Have pity on your Filipino relatives here in Marawi. During your campaign you said that you share the blood of people in Marawi. That you have the blood of a Bangsamoro. This is enough Duterte. The Maranaos are suffering."

Nasira yung lugar naming at yung Marawi City.
