RMP-NMR facilitates support of actress Angel Locsin for Marawi evacuees

The Rural Missionaries of the Philippines – Northern Mindanao Region (RMP-NMR), Inc., together with partner organizations under Kalinaw Mindanao, today facilitated a relief intervention of actress Angel Locsin in Baloi, Lanao del Norte.

The actress went to Maahad Abdul Hamid, the temporary refuge for 283 individuals to distribute food packs and school supplies.

She then went around other nearby evacuation centers to check on their situation as well. She will later on be visiting another evacuation center to join the evacuees for iftar (breaking of fast).

This is the second time that Ms. Locsin, whose Maranao lineage through a local family has brought her to the concerns of the Moro people, has come to provide relief in the wake of armed conflict. Ms. Locsin also went around the Moro communities in Lanao del Norte after the breakdown of the MOA-BJE resulted to violence in 2008.

Another batch of 300 relief packs donated by Locsin will be distributed by the RMP-NMR tomorrow to the beneficiaries of a least- served evacuation center.

“This relief action is among several others that RMP-NMR is pursuing with other partners,” said April Thessa Diaz, services coordinator of RMP-NMR. “We are also starting Community Kitchens in least-served evacuation centers other than simply giving out food packs.”

A major humanitarian mission is being prepared for next week under the Kalinaw Mindanao formation. Relief distribution, psychosocial services, and first responder medical services are among the activities the group aims at conducting.
